Leonard Ong brings over 24 years of experience in Information, Cyber, and Corporate Security, with a career spanning the telecommunications, banking, pharmaceutical, medical technology and both private & public healthcare sectors.
As Director of Synapxe’s Sector Governance (formerly known as Cyber Defence Group and Chief Risk Office), Leonard leads the public healthcare sector’s initiatives in policy, risk management, capability development, enterprise risk management, compliance-attestation-deviation, and data protection. His responsibilities include overseeing medical device and operational technology security, ensuring sector-wide CII cyber readiness, promoting cybersecurity awareness, and driving innovation within his areas.
Prior to Synapxe, Leonard served as Senior Director and Regional Information Security Officer for GE Healthcare’s Intercontinental & China region. He has also held key cybersecurity leadership roles at prominent organizations, including Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Barclays Capital, and Fullerton Health.
Leonard has a long-standing commitment to volunteering, particularly with ISACA, where he served as President of the Singapore Chapter for two consecutive terms. He has also held leadership positions with ASIS International and was a founding member of both the ISC2 Singapore Chapter and the Asia Data Protection Officer (AsiaDPO) Association.
His contributions to the field of cybersecurity have earned him several prestigious awards, including the ISACA Singapore Chapter’s K. Wayne Snipes Award for Best Large Chapter in Asia (2013), the ISACA Paul Williams Award for Inspirational Leadership (2016), and the CSO ASEAN Honoree Award (2015). Leonard has also been recognized as a CSO30 and CIO100 honoree for the ASEAN & Hong Kong region (2021-2023) and was recently honored in 2024 with the AISP Singapore’s Cybersecurity Award for senior leaders.
In July 2020, Leonard was inducted into the ISACA Hall of Fame for his exemplary volunteer service and dedication to advancing ISACA’s mission. In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious lifetime Global Achievement Award from ISC2. He holds a Master of Computing from the National University of Singapore (NUS), is a Fellow of the Singapore Computer Society, and a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
